Once considered to be one of the most premium five-seaters in Hyundai's lineup in India, the Hyundai Tucson featured a refined exterior, a well-equipped interior and an available strong diesel engine. There is, however, a fact that customers should be aware of in 2026: the model has ceased production in India.
This does not mean that it has become irrelevant. A used Tucson might actually prove a good choice for people who are interested in a comfortable premium SUV. But a couple of factors should be taken into account first.
Why was Tucson popular?
While other vehicles tried to appeal as serious off-road models, the Tucson’s popularity lay in its good design and comfort while driving. The interior of this vehicle offered a great combination of high-quality materials and high-tech features, and high variants even included features such as ventilated front seats, a panoramic roof, 360-degree cameras, and more.
The Tucson could be equipped with either petrol or diesel engines. The petrol engine of 2.0 litres provided 156PS, and the diesel engine of 2.0 litres provided 185PS and 416NM. The latter was ideal for customers who drove long distances.
Which Diesel Engine Should I Look For In My Used Tucson?
The diesel engine is the choice to make for your second-hand Tucson if you drive it on highways a lot, since it has better torque and goes well with the SUV’s laid-back nature.
However, the petrol variant is the way to go for urban drivers looking for simplicity.
While the Tucson has an automatic transmission, there were also some Tucson variants with all-wheel-drive diesel engines.
What Makes the Tucson a Great Secondhand Purchase?
The comfort features of the car make it stand out among the others. It features an expansive five-seat interior, an upscale interior and a set of specifications that can compete with many other modern SUVs.
Safety features are also a very strong side of the Tucson, which comes equipped with six airbags, stability control and parking sensors as well as advanced assistance systems.
An unassuming nature may be another good feature for customers looking for an upscale but small SUV.
What Should You Look Out For Prior To Making A Purchase?
Given that the Tucson is not available as a new car in India anymore, its condition and maintenance history matter a lot. Examine the maintenance logs, functioning of the automatic transmission, suspension, tires, and electricals.
For the diesel variants of the Tucson, make sure that the engine and the parts responsible for emissions have been examined properly, especially if the mileage is high.
A good condition and complete service history make for better value than a lower price alone for a used Tucson.
Buy Or Not To Buy Hyundai Tucson 2026?
The Tucson is still a viable option if you want to own a luxurious five-seater SUV and don't mind going second-hand. The package that the Tucson offers is still pretty convincing.
But people who would like to purchase a brand new Hyundai SUV can only look at options like Creta and Alcazar whereas, for those who are waiting for a new Tucson, must note that Hyundai hasn't announced the next-gen Tucson in India yet.
Our View
Hyundai Tucson is a very special case of the car that might still work even after the brand moves on. It has not been the most popular model in Hyundai's lineup, so a well-maintained used one could bring something that a widely available Creta cannot.
As long as there is a well-preserved Tucson with a good maintenance history and low number of previous owners, then it's worth considering. Diesel-automatic is the better choice if you need a frequent drive on highways; petrol one is the better choice if it's occasional drive.
One thing that needs to be noted about this car is that you shouldn't purchase one with the expectation of the next generation Tucson coming soon. There have been no official announcements that the next generation model would be launched in India in 2026.
